Inside & Outside

From the inside to the outside.

Now that we are enjoying the young summer and her warmth, we can create an extra living-space outside.

In the Norwegian Bo Bedre we found an amazing inside/outside to show you how to double the size of your interior by copy details from the inside into your garden or terrace.

The most obvious what you see are the graphic, horizontal lines which are used to create the kitchen. They come back in the fence, the furniture and the stairs of the terrace.

And also by the use of the same color pallet it makes the inside and the outside into one relaxing space.

And besides of the space they can use here, we think everybody can create such a lovely surrounding.

You just have to take a good look at your interior. Extract what really makes it your space. Take those details into the outside, and you also can create an extra space to double your interior.

Take knitting. You begin with just a single thread. Take two needles and in the end you have a cushion, or a lampshade, or a blanked. You name it.

It's a wonder of the human brain to create such items you don't think about in daily life.

Take a moment to look at the patterns, materials. The connections to hold things together. The way one shape lets to an other.

A couple of years ago everything had to be straight and geometric. Now you see that everything can be more organic. It is still without any hassle. But because of the round shapes the products are getting more friendly.

Greek summer house.

Holiday homes, or summer houses. Give them a name; I love them. 

Most of the time they are on spots only known by locals, and with beautiful views. They are decorated with what nature brings, and with the creative mind of its owners.

Nothing is overdone. Every piece in the house has its function.

All for the benefit of relaxing and to enjoy life. 

A lovely example I found on estmagazine.com is this Greek summer house. Four years ago it was a bird nest. Now it is rebuild by the South African photographers Gerda Genes and Robert Koene.

Düsseldorf

Last weekend we were in Düsseldorf. And what a nice town thàt is.

What me struck the most was the 'Middle Age'-old next to the recent new buildings. Hipsters on their mobile phones drinking beer like there great great ancestors did in an old brewery. That mixture of both worlds made me smile. I love the new in every way. New inventions, new equipment, new ideas. But I long for the old and learn from the old and we are made from the old.

Now I know everything can go together in and really good and relaxed way.

Metal & Wood

As you probable would have known; we love design and we love nature.

Luckily those two can go together perfectly as you can see here above. The two let each other come in its most natural form. Raw natural wood becomes even more raw and matt. And metal shines like it is even capturing the smallest ray of light.

Strokes & Scratches

Last year spring it was already a trend in fashion.

But now I notices that strokes and scratches are slightly going to take over the interior also.

They are used as decoration to al sort of objects. Placed out of a loose hand, and in black and white to be on it's most powerful.

Embryonic

Here is a little preview...

We are not even half way 2014, but Lidewij Edelkoort already gives us a glimpse of the upcoming trend for the autumn and winter  of 2015/16.

Embryonic is what it will be. Cocooning in it best form. Soft materials, natural colors, organic shapes and making it yourself comfortable like you are going back into the womb.

Feel the movement when rocking on a swing. Enjoy the comfort when sitting underneath a canvas. Feel adored when your skin touches soft materials like wool.

Arne Jacobsen

Even before we moved to Copenhagen we named our son Arne.

After his grandfather, but also a bit after the great Danish designer Arne Jacobsen.

I admire the greatness in simplicity. The objects are designed to do the work and nothing more. And that makes them the best designed objects ever.

 When we were living in Denmark we often went to the beach. And when we were laying in the sun, we watched the great lifeguard tower. Just some beams and a cylinder. Nothing more nothing less. But so build for the job; Looking out.
